The Twitter phenomenon has reached the hospitality industry. Hoteliers around the world are beginning to see the potential applications of Twitter – the current king of the social networking world. Most of the major global hotel brands have created a presence on Twitter, as have many individual hotels and their employees.
Some hoteliers even have their own Twitter handles, most prominently Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company CEO Simon Cooper, who tweets as http://twitter.com/simonfcooper.
Posting links to press releases and special room packages or discount codes are the most common uses of Twitter, but the creative companies are expanding their use.
